Integrations: How Can I Use the Pocket Integration

IN THIS ARTICLE

Pocket is a tool that helps you organize each saved article with a specific pocket tag, so you can create collections of different topics, without mixing everything in one jar.

You can also use our browser extension to save content to your SocialBee account.

To get started, create a Pocket account (if you don’t already have one).

Once you’ve established a connection, anything you save on Pocket under a tag that’s been connected to SocialBee gets shared on your social profiles, according to the posting schedule you set.

Connect your Pocket to SocialBee

Make sure you are logged into your Pocket account.

To learn how to connect your Pocket to SocialBee, click on the interactive screen below to see the steps, or scroll down to the written instructions.

1. Open the menu from the top-right corner of your SocialBee Dashboard.

2. Navigate to Workspace Settings.

3. On the Settings page, you will find Pocket. By clicking “Connect”, a new window will open, which prompts you to authorize SocialBee to retrieve items from your list.

4. If you're already logged into your Pocket account, click “Authorize”.

Import Posts via the Pocket Integration

Once you’ve connected Pocket to SocialBee, navigate to your Content menu and click “ Pocket”.

To create a new Pocket:

  1. On the left-side menu, click on "Content".
  2. From your Content menu, navigate to "Pocket".
  3. Click the “+ Add Pocket” button.

From here on, you'll be able to customize your import, according to your needs.

Define your Pocket

A window will pop up that will require you to Define your Pocket Tag(s).
Here, you will be able to select the profiles that you want to assign it to, type in the tag(s) you want to add (don't forget to match the case and click on "+Add Pocket Tag"), and select the category to which you want to add it.
Once you've done all that, you can go ahead and import the Pocket to SocialBee.

There are three more options that you can change in this tab: where you want your posts to be added in relation to your queue, add posts as Approved, and append text to your posts.

To select where to add posts in relation to your queue, you have 3 main options

  1. Add posts to the category default (will be filled in automatically, according to your category settings)
  2. Add them to the top
  3. Add them to the bottom

Add posts as Approved is as intuitive as it can get: leave it green for posts to be added as Approved, or click on it and make it red for posts to be added as Not Approved.

Appending text to your posts means that the same text will be added to all posts and all your profiles like a signature. Keep in mind that, because tagging accounts works differently for distinct social media networks, it might not work for all your profiles.

Advanced Settings

Next to "Define Pocket", there is a special tab dedicated to the advanced settings of your tag. Some apply to all users, regardless of their platform plan, some are only available to Accelerate plans or higher.
You can:
  1. Set posts to expire.
  2. Shorten (or not) links.
  3. Trim your text for Twitter.
  4. Add posts with an attached image to it.
Let's go through them one by one.
1

Setting the post to expire can be important if you want to make sure your content stays fresh and relevant.

You can choose to set posts to be archived after they've been published a number of times. This means that your posts will remain in the category until that limit is reached.

You can also choose to set them after a number of days, which means that posts will be archived from your category once that time passes, even if they were never shared. This is great for news sites or fast-paced industries.

2

Don't shorten the links is pretty self-explanatory, we think. If you don't want your category's short link settings to be applied to the Pocket posts just tick this box and links will be added normally.

3

Trimming your text for Twitter is checked by default and allows us to shorten the text so it is suitable for Twitter sharing. Don’t worry - we’ll trim from the title of the post, so we keep the Appended Text and URL intact.

3

Add an image, if possible finds the main image from the link and adds it to your post, without the link preview. The main image will be the one set as an OG:Image in your HTML or the main large image we can find.

Keep in mind that this feature will not work if you select any Facebook Profile. On the other hand, this is the default setting for Pinterest and Instagram posts.

Text of the post is a feature that is available to users under Accelerate or any higher plans. Here you can choose between three options:
  • Pocket Post Title, which will import the title of the article as a caption;
  • Pocket Post Description, which will import the description of the article as a caption;
  • No text, only Link Preview, which will only generate the link preview for the article.

Preview Your Posts

If you've added the tag in your Define Pocket tab, you'll notice that a preview has already been generated for one of your profiles.
To switch between them, navigate with your mouse to the top-right corner, click on the drop-down menu, and select the profile you want to preview your posts for.

The most recent 3 articles of your Pocket will be previewed in this section.

Create and Import your posts

By default when you first add a Pocket Feed, we will choose to fetch the latest 10 posts in this tag. However, if you click on the drop-down arrow you will be able to see 3 options:
  • Create and import 1 article;
  • Create and import 10 articles (selected by default);
  • Create and import # articles (up to 100, if the tag has more).
Once a tag is added, we look for new posts every hour, so don’t worry if new posts don’t show up automatically.
When it comes to importing posts from a feed, if the article doesn't have a featured image or it doesn't generate a link preview, it will be added as not approved. Otherwise, the article will be added as approved (if you have this setting checked in Define Pocket).

Editing your Pocket

If you want to make any changes to your Pocket, just go to the main Pocket menu, find the one you want to edit, and click on Edit. Here, you can make any changes you want to the feed and they will be applied to all articles going forward.
One exception is when you want to add or remove profiles. When you do this, a new checkbox will appear next to "Update". If you mark this, all the posts created by this Pocket Tag will be updated to match your current profile setup.

Deleting your Pocket

To delete any of your feeds, all you have to do is find it in your list and click on the bin icon at the top-right corner.

This will generate a new pop-up to double-check if this is the feed you want to delete and if you'd like to delete all posts previously created by this feed. Keep in mind that once you delete these posts,  you won't be able to recover them.
