URL (Link) Settings
Using links in your social media strategy is a surefire way of making your audience visit your website or do an action that you want them to do.
Sure, you can use the links as such and have good results. But you can also use some advanced settings to customize and track your links so that you can gather more accurate information and optimize your data.
So how do you do that?
In SocialBee, you can customize your links by using UTM parameters or Short Links. Here are the advanced settings you can use:
UTM parameters are bits of text that you add at the end of your link, so you can track the source of that click, and get information (usually in Google Analytics) like where the readers came from to get to your website or other important metrics. To find out more about what they are and how to use them, we suggest you read this awesome article from our friends at Rebrandly.
Now that we got that out of the way, in order to set these parameters on SocialBee, you need to navigate to your Categories dashboard and click the “Edit” button under the desired category:
In the pop-up window, click Advanced Settings and you will be able to set up your UTM parameters according to your liking.
There are a few ways to use these parameters with SocialBee. You can add them to your categories, so they are added automatically to your links. You can either have one source for the entire category (e.g. UTM_Source=SocialBee) or you can automatically tag each link created and shared through SocialBee with the source of the platform it's shared on.
This is helpful for tagging your own content with the right UTM parameters so you have a better view of your traffic in your Google Analytics account.
You can change these settings when editing a category, in the advanced settings as such:
If you'll share a post on Facebook, the UTM_Source will be set automatically to Facebook; Twitter with Twitter; and so on.
You have the option to customize your link in any post you share through SocialBee.
You have three options to do so and to view them, you need to navigate to your User Settings, then click on Workspace settings.
There you will see the short link options:
If you connect your Rebrandly, Bitly or PixelMe accounts, the domains within your accounts will also show up in the “Use domain” drop-down.
Now each URL you add to SocialBee will be changed to use the short domain you selected.
You can, however, overwrite the URL settings on each of your content categories. To do so, you will need to click the “Edit” button on your desired category, from the Categories dashboard.
Once your Edit window pops up, click “Show Advanced Settings”, where you will find the possibility to add your short link. To do so, you must tick the “I want to override” checkbox, and then you will be able to choose your short link from the drop-down menu.
NOTE: Setting up a URL Shortener will only affect links that you add from that moment on.
If you choose to edit the linking properties of a particular category, it will not affect the links that are already queued in that category.
You will have to manually edit each post so the URL is shortened as per your new settings.
To trigger the URL shortening, just edit the post and put a space at the end of your text, that you can then delete once the URL is shortened.
Now you know! No matter how long your list of UTM parameters (and URL needs) is, you can make it look shorter 😉
